I-40 eastbound re-opened just after 11 a.m. Tuesday after being shut down from Louisiana NE in Albuquerque to the Texas state line.

The key east-west artery had been closed since Sunday night because of snow and ice in Texas.

Hundreds of trucks and other vehicles were stuck in Albuquerque since then.

I-40 is still closed on the Texas side from Amarillo to Sayre.

When motorists reach the border, Texas authorities will escort them in caravans to Amarillo.

Once in Amarillo, motorists will have to continue north or south until I-40 eastbound is reopened.
