LAS VEGAS, N.M. (AP) - A former Las Vegas day-care owner faces three years of probation after being sentenced for molesting two children.

Judge Abigail Aragon sentenced Edward Quintana on two counts of criminal sexual conduct under a plea agreement that permits him to avoid a jail sentence.

District Attorney Richard Flores says the victims signed off on the plea agreement. Both cases involved women who said they were molested by Quintana when they were girls. Saying she'd already shown mercy, Aragon turned down a request by Quintana and his lawyer to defer sentencing. That would have left the door open to removal of the charges if Quintana successfully completes probation.

The Las Vegas Optic, the sentencing Monday resolves two of three criminal cases against Quintana. He awaits trial in the third case.
