NM trial into 'good Samaritan' stabbing continues

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A trial of a New Mexico man charged with killing a preschool teacher who was trying to stop the man from beating his girlfriend is set to continue.
Adrian Gonzales is accused of assaulting his then girlfriend, fatally stabbing Victoriano "Mo" Moises Byrne-Gonzales and stabbing another man during a December 2011 dispute at the Butterfly Springs Mobile Home Park in Pojoaque.
Assistant District Attorney Susan Stinson says that Byrne-Gonzales was only "trying to do the right thing" when he was slain while attempting to stop Gonzales from beating his girlfriend.
But Gonzales' public defender, Megan Dorsey, says Gonzales was acting in self-defense that night.
Testimony is expected to continue this week in 1st Judicial District Court in Santa Fe.
