CARLSBAD, N.M. (AP) - National Park Service officials say there are plenty of signs that the ecosystem of Carlsbad Caverns National Park is recovering from a June 2011 fire.

Officials at the park in southeastern New Mexico say there is fresh regrowth of natural vegetation on much of the 8,000 acres burned by the Loop Fire.

Park officials say the fire burned only 17 percent of the park's acreage but that the damage might appear to be greater to some visitors because it was near the park road.
