(AP) WASHINGTON - Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush says he is open to immigration reform proposals that would include a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants.

Bush, the author of a new book on immigration, clarified his position Tuesday after writing in his book that a pathway to legal status should not include citizenship for those who entered illegally as adults.

Bush says in television interviews that he would support a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants as long as it doesn’t create an incentive for people to come to the U.S. illegally.

The son and brother of U.S. presidents has been promoting immigration reform as President Barack Obama and Congress consider a revamp of the system.

Bush made the comments in interviews with MSNBC’s "Morning Joe" and CNN.
