KOB Eyewitness News 4 has confirmed accusations that the State Education Department may have been harassing employees who reached out to their representatives regarding Education Secretary Designate Hanna Skandera’s confirmation.

A person, who wished to not be identified, told us that Public Education Department employees were being questioned by the department’s general counsel’s office regarding their personal opposition to Skandera's confirmation. The caller added union employees were targeted.

The Communications Workers of America 7076 union confirmed the allegations.

Public Education Department spokesperson Larry Behrens gave KOB the following statement:

“All classified PED employees are welcome to participate in the political process on their own personal time, using their own personal resources.

“While we cannot comment on specific personnel actions, generally speaking, it is a violation of taxpayer trust when employees misuse government equipment by utilizing it for personal purposes.”

The union held a press conference late Tuesday outside the Roundhouse.
