Albuquerque police have identified a man found dead Tuesday night after a car accident on the West Side – and they say the man died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The man is Irvin Ordonez, 21, who was being sought in connection with an aggravated battery with a deadly weapon incident that took place earlier in the day.
Ordonez was not involved in a SWAT situation earlier that night in which a man was fatally shot by police, police said.
The incident began as police spotted a vehicle matching Ordonez’s vehicle going southbound on Unser.
As deputies were initiating a traffic stop on Unser just north of Gibson SW, the vehicle abruptly swerved off the road, striking a cinder block wall and causing it to roll on its side.
Deputies approached the vehicle and saw the driver and only occupant of the vehicle with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Next of kin was notified and the investigation is ongoing.
