SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - A campaign finance bill approved by the New Mexico Senate has been rejected by the House.
The Albuquerque Journal reports that the bill would have allowed state senators and other officials who run for office every four years to collect twice as much from donors as they can now.
It would have done that by applying the existing contribution limits to two-year election cycles. That means things would have stayed the same for House members because they run every two years. The House narrowly defeated the bill Thursday on a vote of 34-32.
