(AP) DETROIT - Dave Bing dished out more than 5,300 assists in his Hall of Fame professional basketball career. His next big pass is the one the Detroit mayor is most loath to make.

Bing expects to hand financial control of his struggling city over to an emergency manager.

Gov. Rick Snyder says he agrees with a review team that Detroit is in a financial emergency. Bing disagrees with parts of the review team report, but believes it eventually will lead to a manager’s appointment.

Detroit has a $327 million budget deficit and more than $14 billion in long-term debt.

Bing had an outstanding 12-year NBA career and success in running a steel supply company in Detroit. He’s had less fortune in turning the city around in three years as mayor.
