San Juan County voters to decide Tuesday EMS tax

FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - San Juan County voters will decide Tuesday whether to continue a gross receipts tax that pays for emergency medical services and communications.
The Farmington Daily Times reports that officials are concerned the tax might not be as well received on Tuesday as it was in 2003 when it won overwhelming support from voters.
Officials say they're already considering ways to replace the tax.
If voters end the tax, local governments would fall back on a past agreement where Farmington and San Juan County each paid 44 percent of the ambulance and communications services and Aztec and Bloomfield each paid 6 percent of the services.
Revenue from the tax pays for San Juan Regional Medical Center Emergency Medical Services and the county's emergency dispatch center.
