UNM's Rio Rancho campus seeks new direction

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The University of New Mexico's $13.5 million campus in Rio Rancho is seeking a new direction for its role in the future.
The Albuquerque Journal reports that the "live in Rio Rancho, graduate in Rio Rancho" philosophy that helped convince voters in 2008 to approve a quarter-cent gross-receipts tax for the new UNM West campus isn't yet working out.
Students there still must attend the main campus to get all the courses required for most degrees. UNM president Bob Frank and Rio Rancho Mayor Tom Swisstack both agree the campus needs to beef up its course offerings.
But what the campus will focus on in the future is uncertain.
