Lampiris-Tremba testifies in Ellis trial

Detective Brett Lampiris-Tremba took the stand Monday to testify about the 2010 shooting of Iraq War veteran Kenneth Ellis III, who some witnesses claim was high on methamphetamine while he held a gun to his head and spoke with his mother on the phone.
Testimony began around 9:10 a.m.
The plaintiff's attorney Joe Kennedy began by questioning Lampiris-Tremba about the process of completing his 1992 and 1997 police force applications, asking multiple questions about his high school marijuana use and how he reflected that on the applications. He also called into question how Lampiris-Tremba did graffiti and knocked down mailboxes in high school, used a fake ID to get into a club while in the Marine Corps, and was naked in public with his wife while on vacation in Hawaii.
Kennedy also questioned Lampiris-Tremba's write-ups while within the force. They included forging initials next to an unapproved vacation request and discharging a taser but not following policy for what he should have done afterwards, including calling specialized and medical personnel and photographing and documenting the scene.
He then questioned Lampiris-Tremba on specific training he'd received to distinguish between mental illness and drug intoxication.
"Do you trust your training?" Kennedy asked.
"I do," Lampiris-Tremba said.
"So when do you know how to deviate?" Kennedy asked.
"I don't know how to answer that," Lampiris-Tremba responded.
Most of the morning's testimony was based on establishing Lampiris-Tremba as a witness; testimony moved into discussion of the actual shooting day before jurors left for the day.
Lampiris-Tremba's attorney will question his own client on Tuesday, trying to rebuild what the Ellis family attorney spent much of the day tearing down.
