Dona Ana County criticized over treatment of inmate

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) - Dona Ana County officials say they're being flooded with calls and emailed complaints about the county's treatment of a former county jail inmate who was held in solitary confinement for two years without a trial.
The complaints include threatening ones and that has prompted county commissioners to order up extra security for their next meeting.
Meanwhile, the sheriff says he's been on the receiving end of many of the complaints even though his office doesn't run the county jail and didn't even arrest the man.
The complaints began pouring in after the county announced it had reached a $15.5 million settlement to end a legal battle with Stephen R. Slevin.
