(AP) FAIRLESS HILLS, Pa. - Police say a suicidal man who barricaded himself inside the bathroom of an eastern Pennsylvania sporting goods store after forcing a clerk to give him a shotgun initially had a gun that didn’t work.

Fifty-eight-year-old Mark McCarty entered a Dick’s Sporting Goods store in Fairless Hills on Saturday and asked to see a shotgun and ammunition. He then pulled out a handgun, which police now say was 105 years old and nonworking, and ordered the worker to undo the shotgun’s gun lock.

Falls Township police Lt. Hank Ward tells The (Doylestown) Intelligencer ( http://bit.ly/Yb3vGr) that McCarty’s gun was so old, there’s no ammunition available for it and the gun "wouldn’t work."

McCarty fatally shot himself after a four-hour-long standoff.

The store and nearby businesses were evacuated, but nobody else was hurt.
