LOS ALAMOS, N.M. (AP) - Los Alamos County is working with a Tennessee-based company to create a new brand for the northern New Mexico community.

The Los Alamos Monitor reports that officials with North Star Destination Strategies were in Los Alamos recently to launch the effort.

Developing the brand is expected to take four to five months and cost the county $50,000.

North Star representatives have met with county leaders, economic development officials, business owners, tourism experts and others to learn what makes Los Alamos distinctive.

The representatives also asked about the community's assets and the challenges that it faces. Surrounded by forest land, the community is home to Los Alamos National Laboratory, one of the nation's premiere nuclear research facilities.

Los Alamos is also ranked among the nation's wealthiest and most educated counties.
