APS to move Spring Break next year

This year, Albuquerque Public Schools students had spring break right before starting standards-based testing.
Next year, they'll most likely have it a few weeks after testing.
That's because they're moving spring break next year.
For the past years, APS has scheduled their spring bring in accordance with when UNM and CNM held their spring breaks.
This resulted in students having tests right after spring break.
Starting next year, they'll start spring break later. APS says it's unclear whether it'll have any impact on scores. Rio Rancho Public Schools, though, purposefully plan spring break after standards-based tests.
"Our students will be getting a little more instructional time before they go into testing," Rio Rancho Public Schools Parent-Community-Teacher-Engagement representative Veronica Sanders said.
"For parents it's a plus because its tough to get our kids back into a routine after they've been on break."
The tests are important for both students and the schools themselves.
For elementary schools, student scores weigh into their A-F grades; for high schoolers, passing the tests is a graduation requirement.
