What does the second-richest man in the United States have for lunch when he’s in Albuquerque? Thanks to Warren Buffett’s recent visit to a legendary local steakhouse, we know the answer.
Buffett is worth about $54 billion. He had lunch last week at the Monte Carlo steakhouse on old Route 66 with some cast members and producers from the Breaking Bad TV series. The Monte Carlo is famous for its steaks and chops and burgers, but not for its billionaires - until now.
“I talked to him at the end,” said Monte Carlo owner George Katsaros. “The waitress called me and said this man wants to talk to you. I went over there and he introduced himself and I introduced myself and he said he was very appreciative of what he had for lunch and he just wanted to thank me.”
Waitress Beverly Gonzales said Buffett ordered a Monte Carlo burger, fries and a soda - without green chile.
“I remember when my Dad opened the place in ’81 – the restaurant,” George said. “I go, Dad nobody’s ever gonna eat here. He goes, don’t worry son – they come, they come. I said you’re crazy – I was like 15 or 16 – so little did I know that Warren Buffett would walk in the door. It’s pretty crazy!”
Beverly said the billionaire did not leave a tip, but somebody from Breaking Bad picked up the check and did leave a very nice one.
George said there was a little confusion. Some of the regulars got excited because they thought Jimmy Buffett was coming to lunch - no such luck, guys!
