Two girls, ages 12 and 14, are dead Saturday, after a suspected DWI crash near Las Vegas.
17 year-old Wayne Lovato had 7 people in his car when it rolled over on I-25 near Tecolote.
KOB Eyewitness News 4 spoke to a mother of one of the victims, who is in critical condition.
The victims ages range from 12 to 22. One of the victim’s mothers told us she was in Albuquerque when she got the worst call of her life.
It’s every mother’s worst nightmare. “We got the call about 4:30 this morning,” said Ramona Urioste.
Urioste’s youngest son called her and said her oldest, 21 year-old Reyes Rubio was in a bad crash.
Police said 14 year-old Kayla Martinez and 12 year-old Aleandra Sanchez were killed in the crash. The others, including Reyes, were taken to various hospitals.
“It’s not a call you want to get. No mom wants to get that phone call,” added Urioste.
Police said Lovato was not at the scene when they arrived. He was later found at a nearby hospital.
On Saturday, the family of Rubio waited outside his hospital, hoping for the best. “We’ll stay here a couple of days and make sure he’s okay,” said Urioste.
Alcohol, speed and reckless driving are all contributing factors to the crash.
Lovato faces multiple counts, including vehicular homicide and DWI.
