Workforce Solutions secretary speaks to KOB about website woes

Unemployed New Mexicans can finally log on to the state’s website to claim their benefits. But Sunday and early Monday, it wasn’t working. That frustrated many people worried they wouldn’t get their money, so what was the issue?
The secretary for Workforce Solutions told KOB Eyewitness News 4 a security issue is to blame for the problem. KOB still got emails Monday morning from people saying it still wasn’t working.
KOB 4 wanted to get answers and after several requests for interviews, the secretary spoke with us Monday afternoon.
Many people saw a message when they logged on to the state’s website.
“I think the language that was used was on there was confusing for some people, not something they’re used to seeing on a Sunday,” said Celina Bussey of Workforce Solutions.
Bussey told KOB 4 an expiration caused the message to pop up.
“There was an expired certificate that was affecting some browser but not all browsers,” added Bussey.
But many KOB 4 spoke to used all kinds of browsers to log in. So was this really the only issue?
“They might have an expired password. They may have entered their password incorrectly too many times,” said Bussey.
Geri Stayman has been logging onto the site for months. She knows her password.
“It’s scary," Bussey said. "You’re expecting money to be in your bank account and you expect the system to work."
Bussey said the problem is fixed and won’t happen again, or will it?
“We don’t expect there to be any additional certificate issues around it. It was something I think that surprised everybody,” added Bussey.
