New Mexico sent 80 runners to compete in the Boston Marathon. Immediately after the explosions, friends and family of the runners in New Mexico tried calling, texting, even reaching out on social media websites.
Martha Porter is the president of the running club Albuquerque Roadrunners. Nineteen of Porter’s club members competed in Boston. But three hours after the explosions, she still couldn’t get in touch with her friends.
"I tried text messaging, I tried Facebook first and then I tried getting contact lists from our members at the club," Porter said.
Eventually, Porter made contact with two members and was reassured everyone in the Albuquerque Roadrunner club made it out of the chaos safely.
