Iron Man fans who are counting down the days until the third installment might have to stop the countdown. Walt Disney Studios and movie theater chains are fighting over how to split up the ticket sales.

The news has New Mexico fans confused and upset.

It’s been almost three years since the last Iron Man.

“Just from the previews I’ve seen, I’m so stoked for it,” said Shelby Gillett.

Shelby grew up reading the comics and preordered tickets to the third movie a month ago. But she’s worried the movie might not come to New Mexico screens.

It’s all because of a dispute between Walt Disney, the studio behind Iron Man, and movie theaters. Studios normally get 50 to 55 percent of the box office revenue. Disney wants up to 65 percent, and theaters are saying no way.

“It upsets me yes because why do that? I mean it’s for fun. It’s a movie,” added Gillett.

Regal Entertainment and Cinemark with locations all over New Mexico have stopped promoting the film and even stopped selling advanced tickets in response to the move.

Some fans said they think Disney is getting greedy.

“They’re still going to go over there and get their money worth," Dougie Washington, said. "Whether it’s presales or not so I think it’s wrong,” said Dougie Washington.

Now thousands of fans, like Shelby, are left waiting.

Theaters are worried that if they give in to Disney’s demand for 65 percent for Iron Man then studios will start demanding that for all movies.

Insiders said they believe this dispute will end before the film opens next Friday.
