An Albuquerque police officer on her way to work had to take an unexpected detour to a hospital.

The officer was involved in an accident on Interstate 40 near Rio Grande Boulevard on Sunday afternoon.

APD spokesperson Tasia Martinez said the officer was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

Another vehicle reportedly tried to merge into the officer’s lane.

When the cop applied her brakes she collided into the median barrier.

Debris from the crash struck a 12-year-old boy. He is expected to be okay, Martinez said.
