SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) - New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez is helping raise campaign money for a California congressman.

Martinez political adviser Jay McCleskey said the Republican governor is the keynote speaker at a fundraiser Tuesday night for House GOP Whip Kevin McCarthy. The event is in Bakersfield in southern California.

Martinez plans to return to New Mexico Wednesday morning.

McCleskey said McCarthy's campaign is paying for the governor's travel.

Martinez was elected in 2010, and is the nation's first female Hispanic governor.
