The hunt for 31-year-old David Hernandez ended Thursday afternoon.

He is now arrested and charged with kidnapping.

The chaos began Wednesday near Rio Grande and Indian School. Police said Hernandez snagged a 4-year-old girl outside of a North Valley apartment complex.

The girl’s mother chased him in her car all the way to Southwest Albuquerque, where she rammed into him. Hernandez got away but not for long.

Officers said Hernandez pushed the girl out of the car before the chase started.

Neighbors are still shaken up because KOB has learned another abduction happened at the same apartment complex last week.

“There’s a lot of kids that live here. There’s a lot of little kids running around unsupervised all the time,” said Athena Macias, who lives in the complex.

Athena Macias said parents need to keep their kids close.

Albuquerque police said Hernandez matches the description of someone who kidnapped a 6-year-old girl at the same complex last week. Investigators said the little girl was also sexually assaulted.

But some neighbors KOB talked to off camera didn’t know anything about it.

KOB tried asking APD about whether they notified neighbors about the kidnapping last week.

They have not given us an answer.

“I always taught my daughter never to talk to strangers, stranger danger, you know. They always taught her at school,” said Beth Martinez.

Hernandez has not been charged with the kidnapping last week. Police only said he matches the description.
