The Albuquerque man accused of stabbing his cousin after a poker game appeared before a judge Sunday.

Deputies said Lewis Maxwell and his cousin Stephan Steward left a family party together after an argument.

A criminal complaint said while in the car Steward punched Maxwell’s wife.

Investigators said that is when Maxwell pulled into the Giant gas station on Golf Course near Paradise and allegedly stabbed Steward in the face and stomach.

Maxwell was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.

Deputies said Steward will be charged with battery when he is released from the hospital.
