The City of Rio Rancho has ordered a precautionary boil water advisory for all water users who lost service as a result of the water main break near Unser Blvd. and Northern.

While water service was restored Thursday afternoon around 2 p.m., the city is asking that people boil any tap water that is to be consumed for 24 hours following the restoration.

About 400 customers lost service after the water main break.

The city said that while all safety procedures have been taken by crews while repairing the water main break and restoring water service, the precautionary advisory has been issued until bacteriological tests confirm that the water is safe to drink.
