Despite the fire threat, Albuquerque's bosque remains open and that includes the incredibly popular bike trail. But we have found what some bicyclists said is a real hazard.
It is a yellow pole that sits right in the middle of the Paseo del Bosque bike trail. Bicyclists said if you are not paying attention, you can slam right into it. It is covered in bike tire marks, so it seems several bikers have hit it before.
"I kind of wonder why it's there. I know the trail used to go around that way...unless it's for motor vehicles, not bikes, to keep them off the trail. But there's lots of places they can get on anyway so it seems like an unnecessary object," bicyclist Kim Delbecq said.
"It's a total hazard, yeah because people aren't expecting it to be there for one thing," another long-time bicyclist said. "When they get up to the street, they expect a yellow pole, but in the middle of the path they don't expect a pole."
The Director of Albuquerque Parks and Recreation Barbara Baca said it was originally intended to keep vehicles off the trail. But Baca said a crew will be out there Thursday to look at the pole and see if it should be removed.
