Marla Tellez
Marla Tellez joined KOB-TV in January 2008 as anchor of Eyewitness News 4 Today from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. and Eyewitness News 4 Midday at noon.
Born in San Francisco, Tellez is actually a small town girl, raised in Sebastopol, California, the wine country of Sonoma County. Tellez graduated Magna Cum Laude from Sonoma State University in 1998 with a degree in Political Science and a minor in Communications.
Tellez began her journalism career as a writer and producer at KFTY-TV in Sonoma County. In 2000 her producing talents took her to KPIX CBS 5 in San Francisco where she worked on the station’s Evening Magazine. In 2002 Tellez left KPIX to become a news reporter at KION News 46 in Salinas, California. She returned to CBS 5 in 2004 as a news reporter and a correspondent for Eye on the Bay, a nightly show highlighting the Bay Area's diverse people and places. In 2006 Tellez won an Emmy Award for a 30-minute special on alternative fuels. She won a second Emmy as a producer/correspondent for the February 2008 airing of "Six Degrees of Love."
"I have New Mexico roots," Tellez said. "My paternal grandfather, Max Tellez, is from Salem near Hatch. I’m excited to be here, to experience the culture and to get to see this beautiful state."
Tellez is an avid runner and looks forward to utilizing Albuquerque’s many trails.
"I’m naturally a morning person," Tellez said, "but we’ll see how I do waking up at 2:00 a.m. That’s a few hours earlier than I’m used to."
