A bicyclist was hit and killed by a car Wednesday night.

ALBUQUERQUE -- A bicyclist was struck and killed near the intersection of Wyoming Boulevard and Harwood late Wednesday.

Albuquerque police officer Robert Gibbs said the preliminary investigation revealed the bicyclist lost control while riding eastbound on Harwood and fell into the path of a car driven by 22-year-old Racheal Lopez.

Gibbs said Lopez had no time to react and struck the bicyclist while he was lying on the asphalt.

The bicyclist died at the scene from his injuries. His identity was not released pending notice of next-of-kin.
