Wildlife damage to a fiber optic cable disrupted cell phone service and web access across the Taos area on Thursday.

Representatives from CenturyLink tell KOB Eyewitness News 4 service was restored to the area at 3:42 p.m.

The connection loss was first reported around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to Taos officials.

Law enforcement officials said landline telephone service was not disrupted, but KOB's calls to the police department produced only a busy signal. Police said dispatch and emergency agencies remained connected.

"This is not a crisis," Taos Police Chief Ken Koch said. "We are just going to have to remember how we lived in the 1980's."

The department reached out to local businesses Tuesday evening and called on off-duty officers to patrol neighborhoods, Koch said.

Area businesses did report disruption to some financial services such as credit and debit card processing.
