FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - City officials are cutting Red Apple Transit's Saturday routes in an effort to streamline service in Farmington amid a budget deficit.
The Farmington Daily Times reports that starting July 6 the city will cut the yellow, purple, red and green lines in an effort to lower costs.
Officials say the altered schedule will run for about a month before city staff evaluate it and make adjustments.
That plan drew fire from some residents who say they are afraid that the proposed cuts will be a burden to riders, particularly to the residents with disabilities, who depend almost exclusively on the buses for transportation.
Assistant city manager Bob Campbell says the city stands to save about $42,000 by cutting routes.
