Albuquerque police have made an arrest in the shooting of a small girl Wednesday morning.
Samantha Montoya is scheduled to be booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center this evening in connection to the shooting. Police have also identified two additional suspects, including the shooter. Warrants are currently being issued for those individuals, identified as Ryan Begay and Sabra Montoya.
According to police, the suspects were involved in an altercation at an apartment complex in the 400 block of San Pablo SE and was asked to leave by a resident of the complex. The child was hit by a stray bullet after one of the suspects opened fire following the altercation.
Police said the girl sustained a gunshot wound to the leg around 11:30 a.m. A person at the residence with the child transported her to the University of New Mexico Hospital immediately after the shooting.
The UNMH medical staff is reporting that the child is in stable condition and expected to be OK. APD officials confirm the child did not suffer a major internal injury and will be admitted overnight for observation only.
