WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (AP) - Navajo Attorney General Harrison Tsosie is keeping his job.
Tribal lawmakers voted 7-6 Friday against removing Tsosie from office.
He has served as the tribe's top legal official since 2011.
The council voted down legislation at its executive session.
The bill's co-sponsors claimed Tsosie disregarded their suggestions on some of the most critical issues facing the tribe.
Those include water rights, the potential purchase of a coal mine and a lease extension for a coal-fired power plant near Page.
Tsosie says his legal opinions don't always satisfy everyone, but they are consistent with and based on existing law.
