. FARMINGTON, N.M. (AP) - San Juan County sheriff's deputies have arrested a Fruitland man for allegedly stomping on another man's head.

Deputies say they were called out to an area along the Bisti Highway following an altercation between 50-year-old Norman Simms and Jeffrey Gleason.

Witnesses told the deputies that the two men were fighting over a makeshift campsite.

Simms was accused of getting Gleason to the ground and stomping on his head.

Sheriff's Detective Justin Rieker told The Daily Times  that Simms had blood on him when he was found.

He was arrested and charged with aggravated battery on Wednesday night.

Gleason was treated at San Juan Regional Medical Center for injuries to his head and face.

Officials say he remained in serious condition the day after the attack.
