Saturday, thousands of people are celebrating Albuquerque Pride.
It is an annual event for LGBT supporters.
But this year it takes on special meaning.
A sign spells it out- DOMA is dead.
Tyler Ewan says, "It's timing couldn't have come better cause everybody was so supportive, it was kind of like, a reason to rejoice, it brought more meaning to the party that pride really is.”
Thursday’s ruling that a federal same sex marriage ban is unconstitutional pumped even more energy into an event that is never short on spirit.
The word “Pride” meant more as advocates acknowledged the years of work that went into getting what they say is basic equality being recognized.
And despite some vocal opponents, it was a time of joy for many.
"We're very excited about the passing of the legislation and hopefully here in New Mexico we can bring it here, and pass that, so all of us can get married and be equal in our communities like everyone else does.”
But they say there is lots of work left to do, as New Mexico is the only state that has no gender specific language about who can marry and who can’t.
