PRESCOTT, ARI. -- Since lightning sparked the Yarnell Hill fire on Friday, the blaze has burned more than 8,300 acres and 200 homes.

KOB Eyewitness 4’s Gadi Schwartz traveled to Prescott to hear updates on the fire from state officials.

Fire Chief Dan Fraijo said the department was overcome with grief after the loss of 19 firefighters, but that their job must go on as the fire continues to burn.

The investigation into the deaths is ongoing, but officials at the press conference said the crews did have a plan B and were able to fall back into their foil shelters, but that the flames still overtook them.

Crews are still recovering bodies near Yarnell and are checking homes for causalities, but at this point, Chief Fraijo says there are no reports of civilian deaths.

New Mexico fire crews are on their way to help fight the blaze, which was zero percent contain as of Monday morning.
