A record heat-wave across the west and southwest has turned deadly.

Paramedics found an elderly man dead inside his home in Las Vegas which had no air conditioning.

In Southern California half-marathoners couldn't out run the conditions with several being treated for heat exhaustion.

First responders across the region warn the intense conditions are very dangerous.

"People are having signs and symptoms of weakness, fatigue, dizziness. They're fairly sweaty, they're pale," said one first responder.

Science tells us that heat rises, but it grounded 18 U.S. air flights in Phoenix.
