People living in and around Santa Fe may have received a brochure in the mail about a proposal to mine for gold.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports the company behind the proposal, Santa Fe Gold, wants to start mining for the precious metal in the Ortiz Mountains--a feat that hasnt been done in about 30 years.

The contractor for the company says they are in the preliminary stages and that they only want public opinion about the idea right now.

Santa Fe Gold asks members of the public interested in the Ortiz Mountains gold mine project to contact the company with questions at (505)-214-5739 or talk@SantaFeGoldMine.com.
