Looking to have a fun and safe Independence Day with your family? Here's what you need to know as you plan your Fourth of July weekend:

1) Family Events and Firework Shows

Check out KOB Eyewitness News 4's list of firework displays and our event page for other family-friendly events this holiday weekend.

2) Firework Safety

Fireworks in a drought mean more fire danger. Please celebrate safely.

Remember, it's illegal in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County to set off any fireworks that go higher than ten feet, cover an area of more than six feet on the ground, or are louder than a cap gun.

To find out more about what fireworks are acceptable in your area, click on one of the following links:

3) Holiday Gas Prices

Statewide gas prices for the Fourth of July weekend are expected to sit at $3.39--nine cents less than the national average. Drivers in Las Cruces are paying even less at an average of $3.24.

For a full list of gas prices in your area, visit KOB.com's Gas Watch page.

4) Chances of rain

Our meteorologists say you'll want to keep the umbrella/poncho handy on Thursday, but they don't expect a washout. The 4th will be partly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the morning, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Highs in the mid 80s to lower 90s.
