Police will reveal more details Monday about the officer-involved shooting of a 67-year-old man in northeast Albuquerque.
On Friday, a female APD officer shot and killed Vincent Wood near San Mateo and McLeod. Police said they dispatched the officers after a shopping center security guard reported a man threatening two teens with butcher knives.
The officers tracked the suspect down to the Circle K parking lot down the street. Police said the suspect charged and kept lunging at one of the officers with the knives in hand. That's when the female officer fired her gun at the suspect multiple times.
The man was taken to UNM hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said officers encountered the man three weeks ago during a fight. They believe he could have mental problems.
APD will hold a press conference about the incident at 3 p.m. Stay tuned to KOB.com and KOB Eyewitness News 4 for updates.
