Police are on the scene at the Capitol building in Santa Fe where a letter containing a powdery substance was discovered at the front reception office.

The letter was discovered at approximately 3:00 Monday afternoon, when front office staff was processing incoming mail. A white, powdery substance fell out of one of the envelopes. Staff immediately isolated themselves, then called the Department of Public Safety as well as the State Homeland Security Department.

The Santa Fe Police Department's hazmat crew tested the substance and determined it does not appear to be dangerous but will require more testing, which will be handled by the FBI, who is taking over the case.
