Santa Fe police need the public's help identifying a man of interest in what they call a bizarre aggravated assault case.

According to police, the attack took place the night of Friday, May 9. The victim, a 50-year-old man, was found by a security guard bleeding in an alley at 2428 Cerrillos Rd.

The incident left the victim with severe lacerations on his head and no memory of the attack.

Surveillance video shows the victim enter a grocery store on Cerrillos Road with an unidentified man sometime between 5 and 8 p.m. The victim told police he planned to consume alcohol with the man, but claims to not know who he is or remember what happened after leaving the store.

Police call the man in the video a person of interest. They believe he is of Native American descent with a stocky build and salt and pepper hair.

Anyone who can identify the person of interest is asked to call SFPD (505) 428-3710 or Detective John Boerth (505) 955-5093.
