Espanola police confirmed two people died in a crash on Highway 68 Wednesday morning.

According to Public Safety Director Eric Garcia, a passenger car traveling on Highway 68 hit a flatbed carrying a back hoe just after 8 a.m.

Garcia said the two people inside the vehicle were killed. The victims are identified as 19-year-old Marissa Martinez and 21-year-old Eric Romero, both from Alcade.

Police believe speed was a factor in the crash.

The other driver has been identified as Daniel Garcia, from Espanola. Garcia was treated, released from the hospital and arrested on several unrelated warrants. He has since been released.
