Police are still searching for a burglary suspect who fled from deputies near Armijo Elementary, causing the school to take emergency precautions on Tuesday.

Sgt. Aaron Williamson with the Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office said a citizen called 911 around 10 a.m. stating he was following a vehicle matching the description of one seen at the earlier burglary of his residence.

As deputies searched the area, the suspect vehicle turned west on David Court SW from Gatewood.

At the dead end of the street, a passenger fled on foot northbound on the ditch bank.

Armijo Elementary was put on a Shelter-in-Place emergency procedure during the police pursuit.

The suspect is at large, but the driver of the suspect vehicle was taken into custody and is being interviewed by detectives, according to Sgt. Williamson

Police continue to patrol the area looking for the suspect.
