SANTA FE (AP) - Thousands of tree seedlings are up for sale as part of the New Mexico State Forestry Division's conservation efforts.
Seedling Forester Carol Bada says more than 80,000 seedlings of 50 different species are available to the public during the fall sale. All sales are first-come, first serve and some species sell out quickly.
Bada says the cool fall months are perfect for planting seedlings so they can be ready for the warm spring growing period.
The seedlings are available to landowners who own at least one acre of land in New Mexico and who agree to use the trees for conservation purposes including erosion control, wildlife habitat and reforestation.
Distribution will begin in September and the last day for pickup will be Oct. 11.
