Football star jailed for baby's laundry-basket death could get out

A judge is allowing a former high school football star sentenced in his baby's death to get out of jail soon.

The baby died in 2007 when Robert Flores left her in a laundry basket while he went to buy beer in Las Cruces. Flores was sentenced to 18 years in prison for negligent child abuse resulting in death and tampering with evidence.

Now, the Las Cruces Sun-News reports judge Fernando Macias signed an order allowing Flores to post bond while he appeals. His lawyer expects the Flores family to raise the $8,000 needed of the $80,000 bond.

Prosecutors filed an emergency motion in hopes the judge will reconsider.
