A SWAT team has surrounded a southeast Santa Fe home where a former officer barricaded himself on Wednesday.

Lt. William Pacheco of the Santa Fe County Sheriff's Office confirmed the man is a former law enforcement officer from out of state. The man has access to firearms, but Lt. Pacheco said he has not brandished a weapon at officers.

The man reported to the Santa Fe County Jail this morning to receive an electric monitoring device for a robbery charge. When his wife walked across the street to report a battery charge against him, Lt. Pacheco said the man fled and barricaded himself inside his home on Calle de Sebastian.

The man is currently talking with a negotiator.
