Another New Mexico police chief is stepping down.

The Roswell Daily Record reports Roswell Police Chief Al Solis announced he is retiring because of health reasons.

He was diagnosed with cancer last year.

“Mr. Solis, you have left an unforgettable imprint in the hearts of your fellow law enforcement family. As you retire may you find new roads to travel, new horizons to explore, and new dreams to call your own,” the police department said in a statement.

His retirement will take effect on Aug. 31.

Albuquerque Police Chief Ray Schultz also announced his retirement, effective Aug. 3, after eight years in the leadership position.
