Imagine seeing prostitution and drug use going right in your own backyard. That's what some southeast Albuquerque residents say is happening. And no matter how many calls to the city they make nothing has been done. So, our 4 On Your Side Team stepped in.

"That's always going on around here. This is the war zone."

That's what Jeff Feerer, who's homeless, had to say. Politicians have been trying to stop using the term "the war zone". But the people who live here, like William Parsons, said it's hard when this is going on.

"Litter, prostitution, drug use, drug selling, fights, all kinds of things like that," Parson said.

4 On Your Side saw evidence of drug use in a makeshift shelter someone built. It's not the kind of activity you want to find going on right outside your backdoor. Deborah Cooper said she's called the cities' 311 line many times.

"One person told me that there's no such location. They can't find it on a map, so it doesn't exist, you know. So this is the type of answers you get," Cooper said.

Once 4OYS saw this filth for ourselves, we called the safe city strike force to come take a look. Since we brought it to their attention, they've contacted the owner and told him to clean up the mess. At this point, the neighbors around here like Parsons can only hope it gets done.

"It's a great neighborhood and I feel like it's just two absentee landlords that are making us deal with their problems," Parson said. "They're neglecting their properties and we're paying the consequences for it."

City officials say at around four this afternoon the property owner notified them he'd begin cleaning up the mess on Friday. If he doesn't, He could be fined $500 or go to jail for 90 days.
