Several host families lined the streets of Farmington to welcome this year’s teams playing at the Connie Mack World Series.

And instead of staying in a hotel, all eleven teams stay with host families.

This is a tradition for several families including Sherry and Jim Magee, who've been hosting players for 28 years.

"We like baseball and we like to meet the kids from other places and just open up our home to them to get to experience what it's like to be in New Mexico and see what's it's like out here go to the games and cheer them on and make sure they have a good time," said Sherry.

In those twenty eight years the Magees still keep in touch with the players they hosted, including one who made it to the big leagues.

"My husband and I hosted Manny Ramirez many years ago and we've watched him play in the major leagues," said Sherry.

The Magees say the most important thing is making sure the players feel at home. This year the Magees are hosting Kevin Smith and Danny Maynard who say they're looking forward to the host family experience.

"It’s something different not just in a hotel you know, we travel go in hotels sometimes, staying with a host family gives you a different perspective," said Smith.

"I remember our coaches say you build a connection really early and at first I didn't think much of it but i really understand what they're saying now," said Maynard.

And it's a connection that the players and the Magees look forward to developing during their stay.

The Connie Mack World Series starts August 2, and runs a little more than a week.
